Creative Loafing is an institution. I’ve been reading the Atlanta newspaper since I was 11 (and was tortured when my favorite bands played 18+ shows). So, when an opportunity arose to illustrate the cover and three interior pieces for the 1oth Annual Fiction Contest issue, I jumped at the chance.
 
I couldn’t have asked for a better assignment. Aside from a tight deadline over the Winter Holidays, the stories were beyond stellar, the art director was a breeze to work with, and I got giddy every time I’d see my cover in a CL box on the street.

Faesthetic

Do you know UPSO? He’s got some awesome work. He also curates a spectacular art zine called Faesthetic. I was lucky enough to be included in issue number 11, themed around “Ghost Story”.

Don’t ever take sides with anyone against the Family again. Ever. Attica! Attica! You’re out of order! This whole court is out of order! Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say, ‘Good night to the bad guy!’ Come on. Hoo-ah. If you can’t see the angles no more, you’re in trouble. But I tell you, if it’s between you and some poor bastard whose wife you’re gonna turn into a widow, brother, you are going down. Fuhgeddaboutit. He’s a sadist! He’s an absentee landlord! Worship that? Never! Learn at least this: What you are capable of. Let nothing stand in your way.

Generally, there are two flavors of shoppers: “The Browser” and “The Searcher”. In our initial concepts for the Philips Online Store, we explored using icons to help “The Browser”. Each icon was tied to a range of gifts for certain holidays and life events.

Remember when you were a kid and the only inspring thing in the cafeteria (that cold, sterile box) was the kid who would put raisins up his nose? That’s pretty much what it was like in the Philips Design cantina.
 
So, wanting to transform the drab communal space into an area that actually invited folks to hang out, the senior director asked me to create some decoration for the wall. The mural is vector based and printed on Gatorfoam panels.
 
FYI, I murdered countless people in Wii Tennis on that TV to the left.

My friends at Tweet Design invited me to participate in an exhibition called Black Daggers. I worked on these in my hotel room late at night while I was on a business trip in The Netherlands.
 
I was NOT in the Red Light District.
 
I was WORKING.
